Understanding the nature of жизни человека (human life) also involves an awareness of the cycle of birth and death. Человек рождается (is born), растёт (grows up) and умирает (dies) thus concluding their жизненный цикл.
When is your birthday? Russians generally write dates in a день/месяц/год (day/month/year) format. This means if your birthday is on “06.03.2000”, вы actually родились (you were born) on March 6, not June 3 and вам 20 лет (you are 20 years old). You may have a sister who is 23 года (23 years old) and your mum is 51 год (51 years old).
If the last digit of a number ends in:
1: we use "год" as in "ей 51 год"
2-4: we use "года" as in "ей 23 года"
0 or 5 and above: we use "лет" as in "мне 20 лет", "ему 5 лет", "ей 37 лет"
